Zac Saleski:

Welcome to a brand new episode of maple glazed. That's right. I am Zac. I am the clay's and I am the maple sounds like we're about to do like a gay Pornhub thing.

Murph:

He merchant people, I am an

Zac Saleski:

unofficial mascot. Yeah, like basically is a mascot somewhere. Oh my gosh. You guys see us out there on the streets in Maple and the glaze and exactly just keep on driving you don't want these problems. That's it. Oh welcome to We are on episode 12 Holy crap nice 1212 five volts. See arrow you got it. Wow learning simple. Germans like yeah there you go just that yeah and that concludes the German corner for 30 seconds Welcome to the German milk with your host maple Hey guys perfect

Murph:

that we now need to get tattoos of that high white man. Oh my god we are for cut what? What are we what are we are we putting a label to this? I do? It's 12 it's 12 we are after last week's interesting abruptly ending. I know right? Yeah, I kind of have a very quickly very quickly. That's what she said. guy had a situation off camera almost off the microphone that Murph had to like go because usually when we record these he has adult league hockey games that same night like tonight. Yeah, see what happens. Yep, just squeeze it in before adult like I'm happy you could squeeze me in the night. You're welcome. There we go. Very special place often Friday. You said no. So that's what you want your Friday's free. Well, you know. Anyway, some of us have to work with Chuck. What a week. This is a Super Bowl week. On top of that Canada is currently having a meltdown. Yep, just like last week. World's burning all that fun stuff. Trudeau is crying yet. castigating kicked just I know a bunch of things right now. The diabolical

Zac Saleski:

world we fucking list at the time I was like, You know what, it'd be a really good idea for us just to do Canadian, you know, stuff to kind of like get a quick update on what's going on with them. And I was like, oh, it'd be good idea. The next thing I know, like right after I put out the episode, was it I sent Murph? This it's Ottawa basically restricts honking to make interesting matters worse, this whole situation just keeps getting more and more interesting to watch because now that we got Murph here, so you get a different perspective, but the cops went in took their reserve fuel for all the truckers that were sitting in Salt Lake siphon them a bunch of cops with hoses just suck it and

Murph:

pass it out everywhere. You're not supposed to swallow it right

Zac Saleski:

but it's just crazy because the cops went in they took all the reserve fuel so and not to mention like the temperatures were like Sub Zero temps at night so people were like potentially freeze to death so the next day you have great people Ottawa decided you know what we're gonna do they start carrying like these gas canisters so they can walk from the gas stations to the trucks and then try to help refill them so they can have some heat and whatnot. And then the cops caught on and then they're like No, you can't do that you're helping and abetting the enemy look what the hell's going on. So yeah, it got so bad that they started arresting those people helping the truckers now we're seeing stuff to the point where the people started trolling the government because now they're like well you know what, since you guys are going to arrest everybody more people start coming out for the trucker start protesting with them and then next you know, everybody that came out to help protest with them they're having all gas canisters they actually filled it up with like, some filled up with gasoline some fill up with Kool Aid, just so they can never tell like who has run gasoline

Murph:

and then the auto right yep, the Ottawa police

Zac Saleski:

it was just like, we will end this and all of this.

Murph:

Yeah. Care. It's like those people out there not Canadian 10 year Yeah, exactly. The hell's

Zac Saleski:

the Trudeau is like he's shitting his pants and I'm like, What in the world? Let's go to our Canadian correspondent Murph.

Murph:

Well, unfortunately, I have not been keeping up like you have with all the details, but that's how it works. No, that's totally kind of what happens. I don't know though. That's like it's funny because I guess like my family side of it, they're not very political. They don't really have opinions on this stuff. But it is funny that I do have some distant family that's very opinionated and political. So they probably won't be out there right now doing this stuff. It's so stereotypical Canada or like the US it's like oh, I support this let's just go riot whereas like Canada would be like wait while they're freezing so let's get them gas first. Help them out. Hey, and then maybe and then like and then basically because the police have free much fumbled the shit out of this. They're like, well, now we're gonna join the protest because We're being unrightfully punished. So it's just like we're just trying to bring a cup of sugar to our neighbor kind of thing. And it's just kind of like Yeah, it's so stereotypical Canada that it's like it's a nice gesture so in a weird situation it's so weird so weird. I don't know how to comprehend like to explain it when it's like we talked about last podcast Canada is so go with the flow was so much. But then the moment a boundary has been crossed is just a complete shit show. And it's the weirdest thing. Like, it's like, the government never realizes how ahead they are compared to other countries that they just kind of continue to pile on the shit sandwich a bit. Let's see how far we can push this until our people break. It's like outside mandate, like in the US, you shut people down for quarantine. And we were rioting since like day one. Unlike Canada, they're like, Okay, we understand we got to do this. That's fine. And then like, Okay, well, how about we also do this in Canada, you know, do we got to do and they're like, Okay, well, it's gonna raise prices. Okay, well, free health care, whatever. And they're like, Well, you know what, let's really fuck with them. Like, let's like, let's say they can't walk in parks and like, really can't leave the house anymore. And it's just like, are you guys a high? Like, what? Like, why are you right? Like, why are you doing all this? Like, it's, it's some of the most aspect where things sometimes where it's like, sometimes you like, look at it, you're like, I think the government's just doing this to cause drama and be on the bad publicity is publicity kind of thing where it's like, you know what, no one's talking about Canada for a while. Let's do something fucking stupid and really kind of turn the screws into it, because the US is hogging all the spotlight right now we really need to

Zac Saleski:

now like the front lines are starting to break a little bit for Canada. I read that, just like the US a lot of the mandates masked mandates and vaccine mandates are starting to like, expire. So I think a lot of are supposed to expire at the end of this month. So I think there's a lot of the cities around Canada, like you know what, just let it go right? Fine.

Murph:

Ball exactly what they have to do now because they've looked up, they've dropped the bag so bad. It's just so bad. Like, it's

Zac Saleski:

not even just like, it's just like the country is like, yeah, every city like

Murph:

most Canadians care that much about wearing masks like Americans, and it's just like, what, they've done all this other stupid shit and tried to like, just overrun people's lives that now they're like, Okay, now they're just angry about everything. So it's like, yeah, like we talked about, it's like Canadians, I feel like they will allow so much but once you once you really kind of tried to put your deals into them, then that's when they're like, Okay, now the whole place is going up. And then you're gonna like, suck we really sucked down there. We could have gotten away with this like, like I yeah, there's like, really, I don't really know how to explain it. And this is a really stupid and I'm sure most people are like, yes, what they do in Europe, no big deal. But the recycling program in Canada, it's like the weirdest thing. I'm sure in Europe, they do something similar, but like, yeah, so Canada is very big about green initiative. It's a big deal for them. So literally, it is like, every day of the week is a certain recycle program. So like you can only put out on the curb for the Trashman to pick up or waste men, whatever you call them now, to pick up is like waste, right? Certain items, bottles or one day, then it's bags, then it's compost items and things like that. And I kid you not more and help you if you accidentally mix an item in proper item on that day, they will pick through it and leave it there for you. And it's like it's like the most like, oh, it's yeah, it's like so stereotypical Canada, the nicest backhand, they can do this, like, you've made a mistake. I'm not going to confront you about it. But I'm just also not going to like I'm not gonna address it like yeah, it's just like gonna happen. And like, and I'm sure in Europe they're like yeah, no, that's what we do like the US it's like that's what my family in Canada sometimes have a hard time wrapping their head around Where's like the US is like, just thrown Recycle Bin. That's it like Chuck Sure. You don't need to separate it and like, nope, destroyed all the recycle bin and they'll take it like it's just like that. It's like yeah, it's the funniest thing I guess. So he's

Zac Saleski:

very much like that. Now we didn't we never had to like put away stuff like that and put them out one the city they stayed in there very much like well, just mostly like the immigrants live there. So they're like, well, they don't know any better. So just, you know, kind of, like siphon off a different track, like garbage cans, and then they'll just break it apart themselves. And you just toss them in there, whatever. And but it's like, it's weird like that for a lot of the houses in the area. They do that. So one day we have compost one days. Yeah, plastic and all this other said

Murph:

no, saying that probably is very European. But it's just like, I mean, I am Canada. Yeah. Well, no, I think the one other country of Isabel don't even know they did anything like that. But then I was in a hotel the whole time. But I don't even through all the recalls of doing that kind of stuff. But anything will doba does, right? Whether the other one that kind of blows my mind is like so in Canada, the tower is run by the government. So they call it hydro in Canada. And that's like the power lines and all that stuff. So they want so because of that it's kind of like a monopoly that the government will hire companies that they're pretty much the only ones that do it. Yeah. And so they can pretty much get away with whatever they want. So like, again, privileged white guy. We have a summer home in Canada to keep your family so we have the power to it so that we can have electricity and run all that stuff. I'm sure most of you were like, it's a cabin. Why would you need electricity? It's just alright. You know, obviously electricity, it's fine. Don't ask. So hydro knows this. So from the end of the summer, which for us it was it's like, I don't know, like August till July. No one's in that cabin. And it's actually been a few years since anyone's been that cabin because we're all working now we're adults, like, we just can't get up there anymore like we used to. And I kid you not, my dad still gets a bill from the hydro. That literally, they have to pay to still have the opportunity for power to run to the college. So literally, there is that building has no power running through it at all, like no heater, no nothing. And my dad still has to pay like a $25 monthly thing, just so that hydro can say like, Yeah, cuz we run power to the area. Like, that baffles my mind. I'm sure a lot of homeowners are like, yeah, no, that that makes sense. What I did is like, baffles my mind that it is you're not even using it and everyone else is paying for it. And you still have to pay like it's like a membership fee for Netflix. You're like, what? Like, I don't mean I don't want to sound super socialist, but it's like, unfortunately, electricity in some of this stuff is like a car. It almost feels very common right now. It's like you need that. Like, it's hard. Like, you know, we can't go back to the Stone Age of just a fire. So I think like it's kind of nuts that like,

Zac Saleski:

it just sounds like crazy. So it almost sounds like you're paying for your your neighbor's Netflix series. Like this gets nuts, which is a damn shame should not be doing that. You steal like everyone else, right? Is hop on it. Make sure no one's using it the same time exactly. Whether that's a toxin was It's like someone hacked into my Netflix and they keep like, forget what they keep watching. It's like some childhood like show. It's like they keep watching this show. It's every single day. It's not even.

Murph:

I feel like that is the most first world problem complaint I have ever heard in my life where literally like they're like, Oh, my Flex has been hacked and someone is watching the same show be like, who cares? Change the password, figure it out. But like, they can't steal money from you or anything like that. It's mildly inconvenient. like, damn, right. Oh, I forgot to mention, my parents are just up in Canada. My grandparents. Oh, so they'll be Oh, my mom's coming back at the end of the month. She said she bought some of my favorite cookies in Canada. So we'll have to have to share some of those with you. Looking forward to it there Right.

Zac Saleski:

Ketchup chips. That's all we need. I

Murph:

know. I don't know she got those but God, I know. That's back. Oh yeah. Sherry crack. Well, I'm planning on big going up into the summer, so I'll make sure I get Yeah, right. There we go. Finally, fun stuff.

Zac Saleski:

I have been trying to push for ketchup chips in the States because lasers know how to do it properly and

Murph:

everything they're over. I think you're everywhere in Europe to most places.

Zac Saleski:

They have I mean, it's mainly paprika, but oh yeah. Some play some companies will do catch up with it's the same thing. Like here like they're they're good. They're a little bit more seasoning on them but not even close. It's a candidate downs to seasoning on it always tastes so good. Frickin magnificent. The thing that was

Murph:

confused me how companies do like flavors in other countries. Like I think I saw a video where they were visiting Romania or something like that. And yeah, they had barbecue Doritos. And I was like, That sounds amazing. Because I love the Dorito chip and I feel like a barbecue sauce on that would be sick. I have no idea why they do not have that here in America, especially since I've had barbecue is the most American thing ever.

Zac Saleski:

Oh, a lot, a lot of stuff overseas. So what they do is they usually send it over there because they want to test out it's kind of like a test market thing. Or what happens is basically maybe something's not very popular here. So they just throw it over there and see like, Alright, maybe we can get some money out of it. Right just for the distribution, whatever. That's like when I went over there, Germany, shopping came across what Sweet and Sour Skittles. I was like,

Murph:

Oh yeah, we've haven't had those in a long time. Yeah, the ones that the sugar on it like the sour sugar on it kind of is they had them it was

Zac Saleski:

like sweet and sour. And they had like hot and something else. I don't know. It was weird. Like it was like the weirdest concoction of stuff that I've ever seen in my life and for some reason paprika just tastes way better over there than it does here.

Murph:

Spices probably yeah certain spices they probably get being so close to was it isn't like Indian stuff. They're like the spice capital or something like that. Yeah, the Middle East the other one that has like a market Yes, it's the Middle East right they have like a market sell spices and all that stuff. They say like that's where you get like the authentic really good spices,

Zac Saleski:

bro. Like the Indian food Indian restaurants right over there. and Europe are just a taste so I could I could imagine Good god. I'm not even a curry guy. But I had some like Damn, it's a good that's a nice

Murph:

it's not a big 330 thing. Sorry German thing like the curry bratwurst and stuff like that. Or something. Oh, yeah.

Zac Saleski:

Curry worse. Yeah. Yeah, it's basically just brought worse with like a curry sauce. It's really good. Everything just tastes better. I don't know. badness. There we go.

Murph:

Where's the badness corner? Yeah, it's on. No, that's a corner. Show some way too fat for the corner. Yeah. Some low you get some bratwurst.

Zac Saleski:

Exactly. You know how it is?

Murph:

Oh yeah, man do a to file I'm hungry for chicken tikka and naan bread Tiki Marsala do Ah, damn, there's one near my house like I keep wanting to try it. I just never think to go there cuz I don't know TJ is a big Indian food fan. So I'm also nervous myself as I was only like one or two dishes already. Like, it was nervous. I'm gonna go there and be like, What the fuck am I doing?

Zac Saleski:

Well, it's little bit more difficult in the US because like, you never know if they're going to be sitting there like you're going to shoot your pants.

Murph:

Like Like Good Luck. Wait, man.

Zac Saleski:

ride this ride, man. Okay.

Murph:

Oh, he's got a pretty good Indian population. So like they do I feel like yeah, they probably can't get spices like you could in Europe. I feel like the they would have pretty are salt. Right? effect that pretty authentic Indian. No, word of the day is preservative. Right? You're like, that's the only thing that like, we all we've also found like an authentic Chinese food place once and you're one of my old places I lived and he was huge. So I guess it's like for sharing. But the thing that always threw me was like authentic food. I keep forgetting. It's like these may include the bone in the meat. So because I'm very like, no giggity I'm lazy or whatever. And I hate like muscle and I hate tendons. I hate that little like crunchiness sometimes we eat meat. It freaks me out. I forgot so yeah, I forgot what's the chicken dish was but it literally was like they just took the chicken and they just like cut it up with like a cleaver. So there are bits of bone in it. And so I think it was so that when the soup it was like it would be also like a bone broth. It was tasty. But it just sucked when you eat the meat. Like you bite into it until he's crashing like I think it was broke a tooth and you can pull the book. Damn it. That's the only thing I keep forgetting is like authentic. They don't waste anything. So it's like, yeah, everything's included, however. So here in Ohio, the North Market we've already talked about that in a previous podcast. I don't have Somalian food and that was actually really good. I'm always very surprised and oh, like I enjoy food that I think will be like, I'm probably going to shit my pants. And I actually enjoy it and it actually agrees with me pretty good. I'm pretty good. Unfortunate knock on wood. About what I eat for some reason now that the fast foods I can't handle anymore. So it's like

Zac Saleski:

very ironic cuz I can't even eat Taco Bell without die.

Murph:

I can't Nope. Yeah, we'll do it again. Or McDonald's or anything. I got a Wendy's burger last night cuz I was really hungry. That thing set so heavy. And I was just like, no, like, even the condiments they put on it like just felt weird to me was like normally like, I kid you not like I could make a burger at home. And I could put like some mayo and ketchup and mustard like they would do but for some reason when I was eating it just tasted just very processed and everything to me. Maybe it's because I'm now doing you ever seen that? That vegetable ketchup that has like less sugar? Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah, I do that now. Yeah, better than normal ketchup is the normal ketchup is so much sugar. For me.

Zac Saleski:

It's not even like the the sugars. It's like the vinegar based well. It's like then next year and I always kind of see that I get more dehydrated after I have like ketchup because it just vinegar just soaks up all I'll get like

Murph:

sometimes after that or like salad dressings. I'll get like the odd canker. So it looks like my tongue and herpes. But yeah, it's like though, so worst, man, you guys are watching the video portion. You see Murph slowly creep out. Sorry, I'm trying to come back in. I think it's because I realized I look like a Swedish sailor in this in this outfit I've chosen to wear so I'm not realizing that as I'm looking at myself to not look at a mirror when I left today. So it's like the gray hat with the black and white stripes. Hoodie. It definitely looked like I'm a Swedish sailor, which is really funny, but I sent you a video, which one that the Swedish Chef and Henrik Lundqvist Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. Serious. Yeah, cuz we just shot boys, right? Oh, sonny, Lundqvist retired. Number one to the rafters which was awesome. Well, I guess while I'm on between two subjects now. Well, no, that's good. Comment about so how like Swedish. I think it's like a probably just like historical thing. Yeah. Like when they get married. If you look up like Swedish marriage pictures, they all wear these like short, straight sailor suits that look like Victorian children. Yeah, like they all do it. Like I only know because hockey, a lot of Swedes play in the NHL. And so, you know, with my brother and all that, so he'll show like, yeah, marriage pictures and all that stuff. And it's like, yeah, they're wearing these weird striped bathing suit looking sailor suits explains a lot. Yeah. I had a question for you. Oh, yeah. worth coming in. Here we go. All right. I'll get your opinion on it. Get your opinions on it. So Nope. Henrik Lundqvist says jersey retired. It's been it has been officially announced within one week. So if you're looking at Hey, did you have that much free workout?

Zac Saleski:

In the morning, hi, Ally works. There you go. Cuz I was waiting for the podcast and I was like, You know what,

Murph:

we're gonna have fun. We're gonna have a good time, but not a long time. All right. He retired. It was announced today that to grasp well, not officially, but it's speculated that Tuco Rask will be retiring shortly because he stepped away and there's been some insider stuff that he's going to retire 15 year career with the Boston Bruins to go rest was a backup when Boston won their cup. Henrik Lundqvist has not won the Stanley Cup. Do you still think think that they are Hall of same caliber players. Do you think that you need to win a championship to be a Hall of Fame athlete? No, exactly.

Zac Saleski:

It's this is a very hard point because there are players and you can go to football with the same

Murph:

thing. Wow, thanks. I know football there too. That's their bait in every sport.

Zac Saleski:

It's starting to move that direction where it's like, okay, you haven't won a championship, but that's okay. But you're good. You're good. I was like, all right. I mean, very Sanders I get on. So Jackson. Yeah, like all those guys. Dan Marino, I understand that. I'm not saying you should never be considered. But if you're setting like top 10 records, okay, you know, in that, alright, so, then I'd say at least top 20. Okay, no, you can at least work with that. Since you

Murph:

have all this energy. I'll throw another curveball. Oh, yeah, throw another curveball at you. You're not? How do I put this properly? Okay, you're setting team records for your team, but maybe not records for the league? Who? Yeah,

Zac Saleski:

in that case? Probably not. Okay. This is my point. Because I mean, that to me that just says roll player all the way. That's fair. Okay. But this is where the thing gets interesting, because now those are players not if you want, again, the coaches. This is a different one because I've had the same debates with Marty Schottenheimer the Chiefs for years where it's like he didn't win a championship, but he's won so many games, you're like, he's top five all time and wins. What do you do in that case with coaches who are so successful where you're like, you don't want a championship?

Murph:

Yeah, I think that argument works for coaches, because coaches are the X's and O's. They're the you know, the Bill Belichick all that even though he's won Super Bowls, they can make or break your team. So I feel like if a team in a program is successful, that is a lot of it. Thanks to the coach because you can have kind of like trauma, please. Right. Well not shut them right now. Definitely not. Well, no, no, no. Let me find out. I'm kind of not but I'm trying to think right now. Oh, like the Edmonton Oilers. Like they have a lot of really good players, but like the coach has kind of done good but not great enough that they are almost out of the playoffs for having, you know, one of the best players in the world and another arguably best goal scorer in the world. Connor McDavid, and Leon dry, sidle, you know, and they're like, oh, goalies and this kind of stuff is like Yeah, but as a coach, the islanders coach will stay warm. I'd like Barry trots. Great coach, he's helped the Islander program become more successful. Yeah, they're not in the playoffs right now. But like they were favored to win this year. They just had an off year they had placed for the first 16 games on the road, which is like geez, you know? Yeah, you could be we could talk about this another time. You could be a professional athlete, but row games are truly homefield advantage because you're just on your Yeah, you're on if you're not home, you're traveling all these different places staying in a hotel for two weeks more. Yeah, it's tough to do. But anyway, so I think coaches can be judged by that. I think that's fine. What makes those these interesting is I'm not I forgot about Henrik Lundqvist. I'm not 100% sure on that, but I think he's up there for the New York Rangers or storied franchise, if it's so many great goalies go through. Yeah. And then like John Davidson for them. And then Mike Richter, I mean, their original sex franchise, so they go back to black and white. And then like, same with Boston. Yeah. So Boston like has like Gary Cheevers. And I think Glen Hall maybe we played there briefly. Really good guys like that. Tim Thomas, like really great goaltenders. So to grass if he retires. And I think top in Boston with wins second, I think it's safe percentage and stuff like that. And he technically won a cup but he never played he was the backup when they won the cup. So his name is on top. But then after the goalie, that one than the cup left, he kind of has burdened this and gotten Boston to be as solid as I've gotten. So it's like, it's it's interesting. I think it's I think I would give to grasp the Hall of Fame inductee. I don't know about him or Lundqvist like they made the one runs the championship and they lost la I don't know there's something about him I just don't maybe just cuz he's a very good looking guy that can play guitar and I'm like, You know what, he's got enough Hall of Fame things in his life right now. Like he's gonna be fun, guys. Yeah, yeah, he's the king in New York like he's gonna be fine and he's a big Sweden guy. He wants some medals in Sweden so like he'll be fine to grass finish not the best looking guy actually looks like Penny waste a little bit. Um, you know that kind of stuff. So it's like, you know, give me something the guys struggling in Boston or New York stuff market Boston's a tough market to because I was like, yeah, those people Boston or New York. It's like, oh, you know, we got all this stuff. They're tough, but it's New York, Boston. It's like those are blue collar salt of the earth. Irish American, like Italian American like, you don't fuck with them. Like that's, yeah, you go to New York to learn. Yeah, you know, you get certain areas in New York and it's more transplants than anything. It's like Boston like those people have lived and died. They're like that's what they are like they don't leave Boston. But very few they like the town like it's it's crazy stuff Dorchester and stuff like that. It's crazy like that Ben

Zac Saleski:

Affleck he don't leave you stay. You get you stay there. You get drunk. Be Blood drinks out the whole city. You're fine.

Murph:

Well, it's really it goes to show you like tons of actors and actresses from New York. Not a lot of thing I mean, obviously New York is used as a backdrop for a lot of big movies. But it doesn't seem like a cultural thing. Whereas like Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, they've all made at least one movie about Boston. And you could just tell they're such a cultural thing about Boston. Very true. So hard to explain, but it's like a certain regional use every Missouri in Kansas City. Paul Rudd, you had the Wizard of Oz, and you had Oh, you got farms. That the painting it's American golf is not Missouri is American. Not the one I'm picking up with the old guy. The pitchfork is playing wife. Battle, they call it the marinating.

Zac Saleski:

I know I'm hitting you're talking about about the name of it. I'm sure one of our listeners would be like, yes, you're so uncultured.

Murph:

Oh, we're very uncultured. We're American. and Canadian.

Zac Saleski:

Who's that? Feller with the pitchfork, right, you know?

Murph:

I'm looking this up. Now. This is gonna bother me about this painting. I added American Gothic. Oh, there's also a movie. That's why I thought you're talking about a movie. I was like, Oh, yeah. Wait, hold on. The mixture of the right. Yeah, American Gothic. Yep, yep. Yep. Now I know that'll

Zac Saleski:

fart on Good Times. I remember that from boy meets girl was like season or two or whatever was Eric was like trying to spy on Topanga. He's like, you'll never know I'm there. She's like, try me. And so the whole time like he's like trying to London. And then he's in the Patriot American goth on beanies classroom, and you just sit there as the old man. He's like, just stern and still and whatnot. And Corey comes on. He's like, You gotta be kidding. He's like, revenge is gonna be so sweet. So sweet. Jeez, I had to take a miracle. So let's get into

Murph:

I guess that also kind of trades this into the second thing I've noticed. Oh, what do you know? Oscars are coming up soon. Oh, right. Or Emmys? Whatever, something like that. So they're talking about some of the new movies that come out. So there's one on Netflix that actually I guess is like highly rated so I kind of want to watch it like the power of dog. So like, Western, but Benedict Cumberbatch fun name is like a main character in it. So obviously has to have like, because it's like an old school Western Americana. And so I always find it funny. What are your thoughts on non American actors playing old school American roles?

Zac Saleski:

I think we're outsourcing too much.

Murph:

No, I mean, I give a credit like you know, like come Yeah, I like come on your back what?

Zac Saleski:

I like come back.

Murph:

Look Cumber bucks. It's like the whole switching up Right exactly. I feel like I haven't seen a lot of movies with him in it Cumberbatch besides obviously dr. strange, but I feel like he was like this big name and I hadn't really seen him much and then now he kind of popping up everywhere again. Well,

Zac Saleski:

comer Buck I tell you what, he's not a bad he's a great actor. He's been a lot of like smaller parts which I've always enjoyed but with him it's it I always really liked to go down this road. The one

Murph:

when people listen for it we go down right going down road down roads and we change rapidly everywhere we go keep up right keep keep was the

Zac Saleski:

one that wake up the one where you created the it's basically during World War Two where they created like the

Murph:

oh, this the code thing? Yeah. All that one. Yeah, yeah. He played the the guy was gay. Right? Yeah. Yeah. I wanted to see that

Zac Saleski:

actually go into like transition therapy like, yeah, the one with the electrodes and stuff. So they show parts of that with him creating this. He was a Nigma whatever the hell was it?

Murph:

It was like, Yeah, okay. I can't remember the title. But I saw it but right. Great. Yeah. My parents saw me like, it's amazing. And I'm like, Damn,

Zac Saleski:

it's great. Yeah, great stuff. He's actually in 12 years of slave. surprisingly a lot of

Murph:

good actors and actresses. Brando parts. Like what Brad Pitt come into this? Like he just came in as like, it was like Jedi or whatever. He's like, Oh, you're cool with me. But I still gotta leave you here. And I'm like, wait, what what is happening right? Yeah, it was like a bunch of

Zac Saleski:

boys get everybody for helps to get out. Like better comer but was like, I can't really help you. I'll do whatever. I'll talk to somebody for you. The hell that gonna do?

Murph:

Right? Jesus? I think that's yeah, that's Benedict Cumberbatch. And I feel like like you just randomly pops up in movies. They're like, Oh, yeah, I keep forgetting he's a good actor. And then he'll get like the one roll virtual but yeah, but okay. I feel like a definitely can go either way. Cuz I know what Arnold Schwarzenegger had a few roles are just like what the fuck is this? Like, you know, cuz he's just had that gaudy accent that you're just like, you can't coach that out of him. Like those has the

Zac Saleski:

widest names. Oh, that's it? Yeah. Touching all the way to his name was Howard.

Murph:

Yeah. Which I know America. Exactly.

Zac Saleski:

Had to go into trouble, man. He's at the office. I get it.

Murph:

I feel like there are some cases where like, yeah, there are American actors that probably could have gotten it that might have played the role a little better. They have more of a Western professionalism. Like they're they've done them so much. They know a lot better.

Zac Saleski:

But Americans have this weird obsession with Brett's true accent I believe. Yeah, sex and they just say they're way more cultured and together

Murph:

even though we want our independence I truly don't think we took our independence like Canada you know George Washington will be low anxiety right? Yeah just like Canada was kind of one of those are like, was that stand up comedian the Indian one that we should remember in high school with a clip it was hilarious whereas like the English left and we kicked them out of the country but we're like, Oh no, no you can survive on your own we go with you

Zac Saleski:

look up with

Murph:

exactly say this crap, right.

Zac Saleski:

Oh my god. Anyway, so Murph, we got the Super Bowl. Super Bowl.

Murph:

All right. Super balls. Yeah, I will watch it. I know you said you don't want but I will be watching it. So Cuz why not? I usually do just for the commercials. But I will leave

Zac Saleski:

the commercial, the commercial I can get behind. So it's

Murph:

been a little lackluster lately, and I feel like they've rolled them out earlier now. So like, a lot of times you see commercials, like I've been watching that for a month. But true. I do look forward to it. Unfortunately, I am going to miss the beginning because I have a doubleheader for men's league. giggity. But yeah, I'll probably miss like the first quarter or maybe half. And then you know, that's usually the game picks up in the second half. So I'm hoping the Bengals will win. Just a little bit of Ohio pride slash I just hate the Rams. Right? I think just because come on. They have pretty much bought their way there even though I love Matt Stafford so like, I will not disappoint to see him win a Super Bowl actually would not be disappointed in that. I just don't like this. I really don't like obj Oh, like back home Odell Beckham. I don't really like him. I think I'm kind of his personality. I think it's kind of annoying that he tanked his way out of the browns. So then get on a Super Bowl team and potentially win a Super Bowl and still pretend like he's some great wide receiver.

Zac Saleski:

Well, like I think he's just enough just to get right. That's

Murph:

exactly yeah, I get above average. And I think he was great when he first started and he's above average now. But it's like he just keeps riding on the coattails of his previous success in New York, salty, Murph? I am Yes. Very salty, salty, Sailor Murph. Right. And then I just do I don't know. Yeah, I don't know. Why about Sean McVeigh. But I get it like Miami's I know, I know. And I know as he has a nice house. Exactly. Obviously gorgeous. I know he's in decent shape. And yeah, no, no, I think I just hate that. It's that constant promotion of like, his coaching style is almost like a kindergarten teacher. Yeah, like, everybody does everything great. And he's got to be like, high fiving and hugging and jerking people off and kind of like, it's like, Dude, you're right. Like, seriously, it's like, Dude, your coach, like, are you okay? If somebody hates you, like it's going to happen, like, I feel like as a coach, you have to understand, and I get noticed the old way of coaching. But I really do believe this where you have to balance that act of appreciation, and respect, where it's like, they're not going to like what you need them to do. But they will respect what you ask them to do. They're like, that's how it should be. But everything seems to be now this buddy buddy thing where it's like, I'm fine. You know? Yeah, treat like adults talk to like adults. And I think the old school days of yelling in your ear are gone, which I like. But you still I think we've talked about this in the podcast, too. But I still think you need that edge. Because they only become too friendly with them. You just can never get them up. You can never get them going. And people are like, well, they're athletes. They should just like, Nah, good coaches, like day to day in the normal grind of things. You cannot expect an athlete sometimes to get up for certain games when they expect this for Murph to get me up at a time. That's why they have Viagra. But yes, this podcast is brought to you by Viagra. The little blue pill does Yes. It isn't meant not not just for depression. No, but But yeah, though. That's just I think that's why like, obviously he's still a great coach and he's smart and he runs good plays but like Yeah, and I think too after I watch that Bucs game I respect Tom Brady is obviously a first ballot Hall of Famer like he's a great quarterback. I still just don't like them so like he's one of those guys I don't like so the fact that the Rams pretty much almost tried to lose that game to him I'm just like I don't want it I don't want the Rams I don't want it go bangles go bagels let's do it. Like I know there's a bunch of Cleveland people that are going to be like fuck that shit go rams but I don't know it'd be cool to see Ohio get back on the map or something again, besides college football, like it's so tired here but all state it'd be great just to get excited about another football team besides Ohio State.

Zac Saleski:

Or if it goes good insight and analysis.

Murph:

I don't know you're the football guy. Well, how do I dominate that? I have no idea Yeah, why you I saw you are I really Hey there look at dumbfounded I don't know what to tell you should have weaseled my way in but I was like, Well, what have added your murder. what's your what's your expert position? I'm emotion. What's your extra prediction? Ah, as a as a football coach.

Zac Saleski:

I'll tell you what might be on the road for addition and for this one. Yeah.

Murph:

Nice. Suddenly reference. Tom Hanks. Gotta love it. Oh,

Zac Saleski:

boy. taller. hacklin Um, I'll preface by this. I don't like the bangles. I like Joe burrow. I don't like the fact that they beat the Chiefs twice. That's some BS and then yep, I never liked the Rams ever since they moved to split it

Murph:

off air. Sorry real quick, but all fairness the Chiefs beat themselves. That's like a game.

Zac Saleski:

Yeah. Good luck trying to get that across. Fair enough. Can I just say Jackson mom beat them.

Murph:

That's fair. No Oh yeah, they're under. Alright Can

Zac Saleski:

I like bro I like though that team whatever I just really like Matt Stafford I want him to win one and then that'd be cool coast. Yeah be done but I gotta get to size a little bit off Murph a little bit because it's like I hate this new wave of young coaches. It just drives me nuts but also to it's the way the bangles are ran. I just did it's kind of a shit show. Yeah. They have won the league smallest scouting departments. I think they have less than five scouts. I didn't know that everybody else has over 10 miles. They're overworked. Okay, well, because owner cut costs to every single. Yeah. Okay. And then on top of that, they're the only NFL team without a indoor facility so they actually gonna have to go to University of Cincinnati. To train indoors. They want to go there. I forgot about there was a tick tock this week in the best freakin thing in the world. Actually, it was I think it was last week when we got the snowstorm. Oh, yeah. It was so funny because the University of Cincinnati girls soccer team was waiting for the bangles and finish shop so that they can go into practice. And this is such a weird I

Murph:

was lacrosse team. Or when I saw that videos across Yeah.

Zac Saleski:

Yeah, but they're waiting for a professional football team to leave so they can practice. I'm like, this is such a weird concept to me, like caught, like, just get your crap together. That's all you need to do.

Murph:

Now maybe if they won the Super Bowl, they'll put more money into it.

Zac Saleski:

So all you got to do is just take your practice field or that it's outside the stadium, put an indoor facility there if you want to practice outside, just go on the main field. It's like gonna do cuz I mean, if you see the stadium where Paul Brown stadium is it's like there's no room for anything. Right along the river. Yeah, yeah. So like if you really have to go like to Northern Kentucky, if you really want any space. Sure. I want the owner of the Browns to Mike Brown. I want him to pay for his I guess his cutting corners in some way.

Murph:

I mean, the bangles just had browns. Alright. Mike Brown. Yeah, whatever. Yeah,

Zac Saleski:

I want him to pay for his

Murph:

NFL step in on that. I guess he's not doing anything illegal. Totally.

Zac Saleski:

No. Okay. Yeah, good. Fine, but it's honestly just a shitty owner.

Murph:

Oh, probably. Yes. I probably need to do it because of Joe burrow continues like he's doing he's gonna get oh yeah, Dallas will buy him like they will. They will keep their good players like I just looked at us Dr. Murphy. Well, yeah, don't let not just I'm just saying like, you know, like, it's like the guy repeated. Yeah, the football players are they're tough, but they're also pampered they're gonna be like, I don't want to stay in Cincinnati and practice in the snow or have to go to like, you know, I'd rather go to Dallas that has a full facility or go to Indianapolis or go wherever else like it's just like yeah, where football is more appreciated. The fans are good

Zac Saleski:

but yeah, the owner is the owner just cut costs every single angle he can get but overall I mean that's one thing I just I can't stand but I with everything that's gone on this year. It's like and I was trying to alluded to I was trying to like go around it with golf the whole dolphin thing which drove me nuts the guy they hired looks like a child and I the whole thing just ridiculous. They talked

Murph:

to a bunch of defensive coordinators got promoted to like the town's I think and stuff. So

Zac Saleski:

yeah, Texans saints, all those guys but with the dolphins he was Mike McDaniel or something like that. He was sounds right. Yeah, he was with the Niners. But what about a guy who's just trying to like be friends with people? I mean, it's just what the hell Well, I mean, we grew up in an area where all these guys these kind of big figurehead coaches are kind of put would say the fear of God and people but they would put their foot down. And

Murph:

yeah, it was very, like we're gonna do it. Yeah, it wasn't like if I say jump, you say how high not? Why? You know what I mean? Like, yeah,

Zac Saleski:

I have anxiety. Yeah, so also today, the NFL just announced that they are going to have a NFL game

Murph:

in Munich. Nah, I sound exciting. All right.

Zac Saleski:

And then on top of that, they actually on all their promotions they actually showed a lot of like chiefs on this promotion so there's a lot of people are alluding to like the Chiefs could be going to Germany, which

Murph:

I'll be cool. There you go. German fans, like damn place.

Zac Saleski:

One time I'm going to miss out son of a bit over there. Right. But oh, well. It's all good. But yeah, it's gonna be it's gonna be great Super Bowl. I really just watched like, usually the Chiefs aren't in and I'm, I'm really not interested. And I hate to be that kind of fan but diehard. That's America. For you. We're diehards. Honestly, it's one of those things too. Like if I watch the game, it's a good defensive stand off. Hell yeah. Let's go. I'll watch that. I hate these 40 to 45 games. I don't like them. Give me like a 2817 or 21.

Murph:

I like that for a second, I think. Oh, yeah. That'd be like seven to 10 I'm like, those games would be boring too. So okay, there you go. Yeah, that's a little bit of scoring. But there's still some odd defensive stops make it exciting. Yeah, a little

Zac Saleski:

meat on the bone. The best one I think I watched in a while was was a Panthers. Patriots. Oh, back in the day. That's like the first half. I think it got the score was probably I don't know. 6333 Something like that at halftime. Like

Murph:

I think I saw that one. That's when they didn't notice I didn't always watch the Super Bowl when I was younger. I think

Zac Saleski:

you got to marry right now.

Murph:

I know. My throat. I like the one I blast. I remember watching was early 2000s Like when the Falcons made it to the Super Bowl. I got one and I forgot who they played but it seemed like a pretty good game I think dolphins or Denver or something better remember yeah there's a pretty good Super Bowl.

Zac Saleski:

Oh my God bring back those old school logos oh yeah God yep they used to have it like specialized those Super Bowl logos to like whatever city they're Oh yeah, they need to start doing those again

Murph:

totally. Alright, I gotta ask this one will trigger you this will be a good low though. What did you think of the almost the Pro Bowl last trash alright been trash for your dude it's crazy it's so funny now Instagram is just an all social media just blowing it up X players they just hate it I don't get how like the NFL just sits there and lets that happen like literally the guys don't give two shits like they do not like it got to put some meaning behind it do some give them a Ferrari if they get the most points like do something.

Zac Saleski:

I'll do this and I hate to be that guy like oh, we're traditionalist. Let's do this. Go back to early 2000s put it after the Super Bowl. I know like ratings wouldn't be that. I'm sure like NFL is a great luck anyway I probably even

Murph:

worse now forgot that it was that weekend. I was like oh Pribyl happened figure out

Zac Saleski:

how to get your ass back to Hawaii first and foremost and then go back and start doing skills competitions like they used to have like the monkey does. It's fun like the the QB challenge back in the day. Let's do that day. That's great.

Murph:

That's like hockey. The all star games are trash. Yeah, skills top. It's fun. So you want to watch like this? They do some? I mean, the shootouts are getting kind of stupid. But no, but they have like faster shot like targets all that stuff. It's it's good

Zac Saleski:

state. They used to have like the QV skills challenge. I used to have like the lineman offensive lineman used to like have a benchpress contest nice yes that they're just rip stuff out let reality so when every single year that's awesome. And then stuff like that to build up to the Pro Bowl and there was something it's so weird now because ever since they moved to from Hawaii to other places, it just hasn't been the same. Gotcha. Cuz you can tell like guys are like, oh, sweet and go to Hawaii be great. Ya know, the one ago yeah, they actually want to be there. So the NFL is trying to build this whole thing up to where like there's always there's constant football all the time to where like there's no layover. They're just you're constantly consuming it. It's a you're watering down the whole tire like brand of football. It's not good. Yeah, yeah. And then now they're trying to do this crap overseas. And now they're like they're trying to drum up interest for teams overseas. And that's gonna be a whole other issue. Like, yeah, they're

Murph:

not realizing with football. I think that's what, like you said always made so powerful was like, less is more like them. Yeah, you know what I mean? Listen, the more you have certain things. It's kind of like the hockey season. I love hockey, it is my passion. But there are so many games that it is pretty close to one of the longest seasons in professional sports. So by the time the playoffs roll around, and those go seven games deep, you're like, I don't really I'm kind of tired of watching now. Like, yeah, I mean, like, I'll miss games, because I'll just like how many games on I think they said this year they brought they got it back to I think like 6080 Something like that. Looks like it's like a season. Yeah, raise. Oh, yeah. That'd be a two. And it's just like, I know, baseball has a ton of games. It's not. Yeah, 60 or Oh, my God. Yeah. Yeah. But I think and I think the same thing with like, the NBA is I know NBA near the end of the season, they'll rest their stars. Yeah. And it's kind of like people want to see the superstars. They want to see that kind of stuff. And yeah, and now to have hockey to they're playing so many games. It's such a physically demanding sport, that's like, there's more injuries and things are happening. And it's just like, it just tarnishes

Zac Saleski:

the banding the damn rosters which I understand that's like, that's like football, they should have extended the rosters on top of the COVID restrictions, right? COVID restrictions are becoming a tactical advantage,

Murph:

because they are in hockey. Now we call it taxi squad. So you have that. So yeah, a few players that but the problem is is to is like those could be younger players. So it's like, it's that whole, don't get chicken and egg isn't the right concepts. But the whole idea of like, our games important or development important. And I know me and you kind of same and different in some ways where I'm like, I think practicing with the big team is always great, but you also need games, because let's face at the end of the day, we all hate practicing for so long. We want to get gains and that's how you test what you've been practicing and get more confident. Whereas if you just practice for a full year, you're not really practicing with like, you know, intense all the time. You're gonna have off days, you know, you're just losing that competitive drive. You know, like that kind of thing. So I don't know. Mercer content. Exactly. Word of the Day. Yeah. 10 There you go.

Zac Saleski:

It didn't 10 out of 10 Right.

Murph:

Cumberbatch come back. I don't know. Back I don't know. Outback Exactly. Steakhouse. Yeah, here we go. Sponsors, please. Right doing sir. But it's I'm trying to think maybe baseball might have the only really like all star game that actually is pretty decent.

Zac Saleski:

Yeah. They're they're high stakes. Because it's like, whoever wins that game has a home field advantage for

Murph:

the World Series there. They have a little son but it's also a little competitive, which I kind of like where they have

Zac Saleski:

the game. So they have a little bit of games like built up right? Like, which I like because they have the futures game, which is all like top young prospects and you got your Home Run Derby thing and all this other stuff. Yeah, it's great. Like I would love to see that stuff with football, but it just didn't go so far up at home. Um, I hope you guys have a wonderful weekend. Enjoy the Super Bowl if you're watching it Yes, and if you guys haven't yet make sure you guys follow us on all social medias even Murph and his little Swedish attire.
